MediaWiki Installation Complete

February 25th 2010 in Uncategorized

In preparation of another assignment for OPIM 5165, I researched open source wiki platforms that would allow me to install and host them on my own domain. I found MediaWiki (http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki) and downloaded it. The installation was pretty straight forward, upload to webserver, create a MySQL database, create a database user, grant the user privileges, and then point my browser to the installer. Next I’ll look for some skins to customize the wiki’s look and feel and start adding content.

After searching for skins for the wiki, I decided on one that looks similar to SharePoint. I downloaded the skin from this site: http://www.rilnet.com/en/skins/download-mediawiki and then uploaded it to my web server, then enabled it.
